Senior Blades were invited by The Football Supporters’ Association to an online briefing. The event was hosted by Mike Riley, general manager of the Professional Game Match Officials Limited Group and included a presentation relating specifically to VAR.
The presentation covered subjects like the processes of decision making, interpretation and effectiveness. Mike Riley was joined by his deputy Adam Gale-Watts.
Attendees had been invited to submit questions to Mr Riley, these would not be allowed to include references to invididual referees but be subject specific. A robust discussion followed several of the questions with some participants feeling quite aggrieved at the outcomes of VAR decisions at their particular clubs.
The PGMOL are responsible for 550 match officials across the Premier League, EFL and non-league and over the last two seasons have come in for criticism in the use of VAR during games.
It seems VAR will continue to cause controversy amongst supporters, one only needs to look back a couple of weeks at the Fulham game, need we say more!!
