Our honorary president, Tony Currie, had a very big surprise at his Memory Club meeting on 1st December. Unknown to him, Dawn Astle MBE, daughter of the late Jeff Astle, had come to the Christmas Memory Club meeting to present Tony with the Jeff Astle Award presented by the PFA in special recognition for his services to Brain Health.
It was a very emotional moment and there were quite a few moist eyes in the room at that time. Tony was overwhelmed and made a lovely response to Dawn’s very poignant words before her Mum, Lorraine and Dawn presented the impressive trophy.
It is a very well deserved honour for Tony, as he works tirelessly to make sure these meetings are a great success and the ever increasing numbers, show he is doing a fantastic job. No only our Golden Boy from many years ago, but now gaining a reputation for helping his fellow professionals, and others, in their life after football. Well done Tony, long may it continue.
