ROY RIDGE – RIP

SHEFFIELD UNITED HAVE ASKED
SENIOR BLADES TO CIRCULATE THIS OBITUARY

RIP ROY RIDGE

Sheffield United Football Club is saddened to hear of the passing of another former player.

Less than 24 hours after learning of the death of Alex Sabella, the club can confirm that Roy Ridge has passed away aged 86.

Roy joined the Blades in 1951 and went on to spend an incredible 13 years as a player. A loyal servant in every sense of the word, he was a stalwart for the reserve side and made 15 first team appearances with quality and class when called upon.

Cec Coldwell and Graham Shaw were tough acts to displace, but Roy never failed when called upon. He finally left for Rochdale in 1964 where he made 85 Football League appearances before joining Worksop Town.

Roy still attended games from time to time at Bramall Lane when chance allowed and spent time reminiscing with Len Badger, Tony Currie and Ted Hemsley only a couple of years ago.

The condolences of all at the club go out to Roy’s family at this sad time.
